AI governance is becoming the new cybersecurity

Fifteen years ago, many organizations treated cybersecurity as an afterthought. Today it is mandatory. AI governance is heading down the same path.

Fifteen years ago, many organizations treated cybersecurity as an afterthought. Today, it's mandatory. AI governance is heading down the same path.

OMB's AI memos, the work around responsible AI, and federal forums on AI risk all point the same way: governance isn't a barrier. It's what makes scaling possible.

From where I sit, governance is really about:

  • Clarity
  • Trust
  • Transparency
  • Repeatability
  • Protecting mission integrity

Security went through the same arc. It started as a review at the end, became a set of controls in the middle, and ended up as an engineering practice from the first commit. The programs that made that shift early stopped treating authorization as a hurdle and started shipping with fewer surprises.

AI without governance feels fast, until something breaks. Governance without AI feels safe, until you fall behind.

The next leaders will balance both.

How we work

In our Governed AI work, AI tasks ship with an evaluation suite, a review path, and an Earned Autonomy level that only moves up with evidence.
