The role
We're looking for a Software Developer Intern to join a fast-moving Agile product team that builds and operates an innovative digital automation platform for the Federal Government. This role is for college students and new graduates in Computer Science or IT-related fields who are adaptable and ready to learn.
We're looking for someone who is:
- A problem solver. You aren't afraid to go deep, experiment, learn on the fly, and do the work.
- An active listener and learner. You're eager to learn new concepts and technologies by watching, doing, experimenting, and continuously improving.
- Humble but opinionated. You have lots of ideas, and you're happy to change direction when a better path emerges. You take your work more seriously than you take yourself.
- An active collaborator. You want feedback early and often, and you enjoy a collaborative process because it pushes you to do better work.
What you'll do
- Work alongside senior engineers and developers on an Agile team to maintain and build efficient software
- Handle routine engineering tasks such as bug fixes, documentation, and unit testing
- Support production builds and releases: prepare builds, run scripts, and maintain delivery pipelines
- Get to know the codebase and keep improving your programming skills
- Use AI tools responsibly to learn faster, debug, and improve your output
- Take on other work as needed, with a focus on delivering value to our customers
What you bring
- 0–2 years of relevant professional or hands-on academic experience
- Currently pursuing (Junior or Senior preferred) or holding a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or an IT-related field
- Moderate knowledge of at least one programming language: Go, PHP, Python, Java, C++/C#, and/or TypeScript/JavaScript
- Familiarity with data structures, algorithms, software design, SQL, HTML, object-oriented design, and the SDLC
- Basic AI knowledge: you can write simple prompts and interpret results responsibly
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to adapt to a changing project environment
- Self-motivation and self-direction: you can set priorities and propose solutions with minimal supervision
- The ability and desire to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working with a professional team
- Knowledge of or experience with Agile practices such as Sprints, User Stories, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, and Automated Testing
What success looks like at 30 days
- You're comfortable navigating the codebase and contributing to sprint work on your own
- You've shipped bug fixes, tests, or documentation that made it into production
- You've supported at least one build or release through the delivery pipeline
- You're an active participant in sprint ceremonies and collaborate easily with the team
- AI is part of how you learn and work, used thoughtfully and responsibly
To apply
Include a brief note on a project you've built (academic, personal, or professional) and how you used AI tools, if at all, to learn or develop it. Generic applications without this will not be considered.
